It's opera time again! This time it was Daniel Catan's "Florencia en el Amazonas". This opera is relatively new (composed in 1996), and is so lush it just oozes the atmosphere of the Amazon. The orchestral score is beautiful, and the vocal parts are just as gorgeous. The chorus open the show with a colorful market scene (hence our fake tans--they had to make all these pasty Utahns look Colombian), and we create drama from backstage in a storm that ends Act I. Scott and Caleb (huge "Dora the Explorer" fans) were very excited to learn that it is sung in Spanish.
Entering through the Stage Door, like a boss. Or a chorus member. :)
These ladies (Heather and Christine) are always reading my palms onstage, trying to predict the gender and arrival date of la bebe.
Cutest fan letter ever. It reads:
"Dear Utah Opera, I really, really, really, loved the opera 'Florencia en el Amazonas'. It was super, duper, extremely heart touching. I cried like half of the time. It was so happy and also sad. The music was very pretty. I loved that I got to be there on opening night. During bows my hands hurt a ton from clapping so hard. It is the best opera I have seen in my life! (I've also been in a few). I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. I loved it!!!
